A lane graded flat turns into a creek in every storm and a string of potholes after it. None of that is the gravel's fault. It is the build.
South State Paving installs and repairs gravel and crushed stone driveways with the same equipment and the same thinking we bring to asphalt. We strip the organic soil, because stone over topsoil never stays. On soft or wet ground we can lay a geotextile fabric so the stone does not punch down into the mud. We build in layers, larger stone underneath for strength and a finer top course that locks together. And we shape a crown, a slight high point down the center, so water sheds to the sides instead of running down the wheel tracks.
Already have a gravel lane that has gone to potholes and washboard? We regrade it, reshape the crown, fix the drainage that caused the damage, add fresh stone, and compact it. That is a very different result from having a load of stone dumped and spread.
Gravel is also the smart first phase for a lot of properties. A well-built stone driveway is exactly the base you need to pave or tar and chip later.

Why does my gravel driveway keep getting potholes?
Almost always drainage. Water that sits on a flat or dished driveway softens the surface, and tires splash the fines out. Regrading with a proper crown so water runs off is the real fix. Just filling the holes does not last.
What kind of stone is best for a driveway?
Angular crushed stone with fines, which locks together and compacts hard. Rounded stone like pea gravel or river rock rolls under tires and never firms up. We will recommend a base and top course that suit your ground.
Can I pave it later?
Yes. A properly built and compacted gravel driveway is an ideal base for asphalt or tar and chip down the road.
